By The Department of Education came into being when Congress established it on May 4, 1980 as an Cabinet level agency. The department was implemented in order to offer equal access to education to all individuals as well as a host of other directives. (In 1867 Congress passed legislation to create the Department of Education which later was changed to the Office of Education.)
The department planned to supplement the states with all educational endeavors to help all individuals create a better atmosphere of learning.
To encourage more public involvement in the Federal Education Program
To promote improvement in the quality and usefulness of the Federal Education Program
To promote improvements in the quality and usefulness of education through Federally supported research
To improve the coordination of Federal education programs;
To improve the management of Federal education activities
Finally, to increase the accountability of Federal education programs to the President, the Congress, and the public.
The mission of the newly formed Department of Education was to promote students achievements hoping to prepare them for a global competitive advantage ensuring equal access to all.
The budget for 2024 was around 268 billion dollars. With total outlays to the department at around 3 trillion dollars since 1979.” Did we get our money’s worth?
The National Center for Educational Statistics shows the US Educational system shows there were 68 educational systems above average scores for 15 year students in mathematics. There were 5 educational systems that were lower than average and 7 did not change their status from the previous years testing.
Today we have parents rallying at school board meetings to return our education back to the States because of the content of the curriculum set forth by many Boards in the Nation. The Woke agenda where individuals dressed in drag are reading books that they deem pornography to their children. Or preaching Gay Pride with rainbow flags in the classrooms indoctrinating their children to believe that is acceptable behavior at such a young age.
The Bible is not allowed in the classrooms currently because the Boards oppose the content of the words of the book. They say it is unconstitutional because of separation of Church and State. There are advocates now who believe we need morality back in the classrooms with common sense learning of the basics as was required previously in these rooms.
