After coming to Vegas in the late 1980’s we found many attractions that were away from the “strip”. Within 25 minutes drive time vacationers can stop off at Red Rock Canyon for a day of hiking , picnicking or just a drive around the 13 mile loop. The scenery is breathtaking up close as the thrust fault protrudes across our landscape visible for miles throughout the valley. The vegetation and animals are visible just about all year around.

Many locals don’t know this fact about Red Rock Canyon that I’m going to mention. The total area of the canyon consists of 195,819 acres located in the Mojave Desert. The first trail you come to is Calico Hill which just about any individual can hike. Their is a slight decline to start the hike, which could be anywhere from a mile up to 6 miles. Moderate challenge with some areas where the canyon walls close in to less then a foot wide. You will not be disappointed.
